As per your requests, Overstream now supports videos from Archive.org.
Normally, the video URL that you would enter into Overstream Editor is, as usual, the URL of the page on which you watch the video at Archive.org, and as such has the form http://www.archive.org/details/[VideoName] (e.g., http://www.archive.org/details/ThePowerOfNightmares ). In this case, the video stream to which the Arhive.org player defaults to is selected.
However, some videos on Archive.org contain not only several versions of the video of different quality, but rather the video is split up into several parts, such as http://www.archive.org/details/ThePowerOfNightmares. So, you can also enter the direct video stream URL into the Overstream Editor, of form http://www.archive.org/download/[VideoName]/[VideoFilename] (e.g., http://www.archive.org/download/ThePowerOfNightmares/chapter3_512kb.mp4 ). You can obtain this URL by Right-Click>Copy Link Location in the "Individual Files" section on the video view page at Archive.org. Note that in this case, only URLs ending with "mp4" and "flv" are allowed (since not all video formats offered by Archive.org for download will stream in the Flash Player). If you enter a video URL that does not end in "mp4" or "flv", once again the default video stream for that video will be selected, same as if you had entered the video page URL.
I also want to note that if you enter this Individual File Archive.org video stream URL, currently it will be used as the URL for the "Original Video" link on the Overstream View page (under the Overstream Player). Clicking on this URL will lead the users to be offered to download the file, instead of them going to the appropriate video page on Archive.org (as happens with the Original Video links for all the other video providers). Perhaps we will fix it later, for now we simply offer this second way of entering the URL as an exception to allow for overstreaming different chapters of those Archive.org videos which are separated into chapters. |
